A Prayer for When You Are Angry

Anger is honest, but it can carry us somewhere we don’t want to go. May this prayer cool the heat in your chest, and this verse lead you back toward peace.

A prayer

Lord, anger is burning in me and I don’t want it to rule my heart or my words. Help me to be slow to speak and slow to wrath. Show me what is underneath this — the hurt, the fear, the longing to be heard — and meet me there. Replace my bitterness with peace, and give me the strength to respond with grace. Amen.

So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God.
